Vice President Kamala Harris has been criticized for deciding to take her vice running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, to the first official interview. Last month, after President Biden announced he would not seek re-election.
The decision, which will be featured on CNN, has drawn the ire of some critics. Harris, 59, and Walz are set to do a “joint interview,” according to the cable news organization, which will be broadcast on Thursday at 9 p.m.
However, the latter’s presence has raised questions. Many Republican and conservative commentators have claimed Harris will use the governor to evade challenging questions about her term as Vice President of the United States.
Regardless, one of the critics believes that the move demonstrates Harris’s lack of faith. Jennings, a CNN contributor and former senior assistant to President George W. Bush said that, “I mean, I think it’s incredibly weak, weak sauce, to show up with your running mate.”
He believes, “I find it bizarre, as a voter, looking at you, I find it extremely dangerous. I believe Republicans will find it pretty poor that you show up…and in one session, you’re essentially bringing somebody who will take up half your time.”
Harris might require someone else to be present beside her due to her past struggles with public speaking and interviewing. That is why Jennings has been so surprised — he believes it is not a good idea to have her terms all the time.
At another point, Blehar of National Review inquires, “LOL, a joint interview. She merely cannot be left by herself.” At this moment, I believe we were about to give Harris the ‘phone-a-friend’ choice for the debate of September 10.
Additionally, author Carol Roth concluded that Harris’s choice resembled that of many young job prospects, who frequently bring their parents to interviews. However, according to her, “I wouldn’t engage in this case either.”
Since Harris won the support of President Biden, the televised conversation will be the first time the two have appeared together in public. Her endorsement of his successor occurred on July 21, 2021.
CNN anchor Dana Bash will conduct the interview with Harris and Walz in Savannah, Georgia.
