Trump’s Trial Set To Take Dramatic Turn

Daily Report April 21,2024

Former President Donald Trump found support in the most unlikely places after one of his biggest critics suggested he was open to testifying in the former president’s ongoing criminal trial.

The former president began his hush money defense on Monday after he was indicted for campaign violation. Trump’s indictment stems from his hush payment to Adult movie star Stormy Daniels.

Daniels’s former attorney, Michael Avenatti, one of Trump’s fiercest critics, told the New York Post That he would testify for the former president.

Avenatti, who is currently serving a 19-year sentence for extortion, tax evasion, fraud, embezzlement and other federal crimes, told The Post in a phone call from Terminal Island that Trump’s legal team has contacted him.

“The defense has contacted me,” Avenatti told The Post. “I’d be more than happy to testify, I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of year.”

Avenatti also defended Trump, adding that the ongoing trial is political and designed to prevent millions of Americans from voting for the former president.

“There’s no question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned that he may be reelected,” Avenatti said. “If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought at this time, and for the government to attempt to bring this case and convict him in an effort to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him, I think it’s just flat out wrong, and atrocious.”

The former attorney also insisted that the former president is being targeted and that the four indictments against him will help him win in November.

“I’m really bothered by the fact that Trump, in my view, has been targeted,” Avenatti added. “Four cases is just over the top, and I think there’s a significant chance that this is going to all backfire and is going to propel him to the White House.”

One of the charges that landed Avenatti in federal jail saw him steal around $300,000 from Daniels.

At the height of his fame, Avenatti was a fierce critic of Trump. Mainstream media outlets featured him on their shows, where he bashed the former president until his arrest.
