Letitia James Under Pressure To Sue Anti-Trump Comedian

Daily Report March 31,2024

New York Attorney General Letitia James is under immense pressure to prove that her lawsuit against former President Donald Trump was not politically motivated.

Supporters of the former president and politicians are asking James to prosecute comedian Jon Stewart after it was revealed that he overvalued his Manhattan home.

James sued the former president for allegedly overvaluing his properties to secure loans from banks. Trump ultimately lost the case and was asked to pay more than $450 million in bonds to appeal the ruling.

Stewart, while speaking on a recent episode of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, ridiculed Trump over the case, adding that the former president’s alleged lies cost the people of New York. Stewart also argued that a loan that goes to the liar doesn’t go to someone giving a more honest evaluation.

“The attorney general of New York knew that Trump’s property values were inflated because when it came time to pay taxes, Trump undervalued the very same properties,” Stewart added. “It was all part of a very specific real estate practice known as lying.”

The New York Post, however, obtained a document that proved that Stewart also overvalued his home when he sold it. According to The Post, Stewart’s New York City penthouse sold for 829% more than its assessed value. Records also showed that the comedian paid lower taxes on the property due to its low valuation before it was sold.

Pressure is now mounting on Letitia James to sue Stewart for overvaluing the property. The former president’s lawyer, Alina Abba, maintained that no one is above the law and that James must prosecute Stewart.

“Why don’t they use the same consumer statute against him like they used against Trump?” Habba questioned.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) said he was looking forward to James sending officers after Stewart.

“Look forward to Letitia James sending the NYPD to haul Jon Stewart to jail and seize his property,” Collins wrote.
