GOP Political Advisor And CNN Commentator Dies Suddenly

Daily Report May 19,2024

A popular political commentator and GOP advisor was found dead on Saturday morning outdoors, according to Police.

Alice Stewart, a CNN political analyst, died after she appeared to have suffered a medical emergency. Police say they believe Stewart, who has worked on the campaigns of several GOP presidential candidates, suffered a medical episode.

Mark Thompson, CNN’s CEO, broke the news of Stewart’s death to staff in a Saturday email.

‘Alice was a very dear friend and colleague to all of us at CNN,” Thompson wrote in the email. “A political veteran and an Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage, known across our bureaus not only for her political savvy but for her unwavering kindness. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn such an extraordinary loss.”

CNN’s Jessica Dean broke the news to the rest of the world in an emotional and moving broadcast at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“We have some very sad news to report to you, and I am very sorry to have to tell you this. CNN commentator and Republican political strategist Alice Stewart has passed away,” Dean said amid tears. Many of you knew her. She has been a staple on this network, participating in many political panels, bringing us deep insight into politics. You’ll remember she was a former communications director for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). She worked with Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachman, to name a few. Alice and I both got our start in Arkansas television in local news. I was coming up as an intern. As we both made our way to CNN, she was always there with an encouraging smile or a text as I climbed up the ladder here.”

Stewart, who voted for former President Donald Trump, joined CNN in 2016 as a political commentator just before that year’s election. She made her last appearance Friday on CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

Blitzer paid tribute to Stewart, noting that he was very sad to hear the news of her death.

“Personally, I will miss her very much and am very sad to hear this news. She brought us all so much information and insight. She was such a valuable piece of the team here at CNN. We are all processing this news as it was so sudden,” Blitzer said. “We always invited her to come on my show because we knew we would be a little bit smarter at the end of that conversation.”

Police said they suspect no foul play in Stewart’s death.
