Border Crosser Flee Back Into Mexico Following Stabbing

A shocking, violent incident at the Texas-Mexico border saw a National Guard soldier fired at a migrant on Sunday.

According to reports on The Daily Caller News Foundation, the incident occurred along the Rio Grande River in El Paso’s Lower Valley.

The incident began unfolding about 1 p.m. on Sunday after border patrol was notified about a stabbing. The National Guard soldier, who was deployed from Indiana to the El Paso area under Texas GOP Gov. Gregg Abbott’s Operation Lonestar, observed a migrant stab two of his fellow migrants. The soldier then fired his weapon in response, causing the attacker to flee to the Mexican side of the border. It’s not clear if the soldier’s shot hit the attacker.

Further Investigations confirmed the attacker stabbed two migrants before he was fired upon. A local fire and rescue crew responded to the scene following the incident and treated the victims for minor injuries.

The Texas Military Department on Monday confirmed news of the incident in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Early on the afternoon of 14 April, a National Guard service member assigned to Operation Lone Star discharged a weapon in a border-related incident. The incident is under investigation,” the department said in the statement. “More information will be made available as the investigation progresses.”

Violence at the border has gotten worse under President Joe Biden, with border officials now warning agents to wear their body armor and remain vigilant. The warning came in a bulleting NewsNation exclusively obtained.

“They can attack an agent, and there’s literally no consequences,” said Art Del Cueto, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council.

The incident came just weeks after a group of migrants overwhelmed members of the Texas National Guard with a video showing the immigrants trampling over five soldiers. A spokesperson for Abbott’s office blamed the incident on Biden’s weak border policy.

“The surge today in El Paso is the direct result of the unsustainable chaos President Biden has unleashed on the border,” the spokesperson said. “The Texas Military Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety quickly gained control of the situation and are working to repair the damage. These illegal immigrants committed crimes in Texas, and the Department of Public Safety is under instruction to arrest every illegal immigrant involved for committing criminal trespass and destruction of property.”
