A devastating fire engulfed a Connecticut mansion on Thanksgiving Day, with fire officials suggesting it likely originated from someone attempting to fry a turkey inside the garage.

The massive blaze, which consumed a 10,000-square-foot residence valued at nearly $3 million, required an extensive 16-hour effort to extinguish, according to the Weston Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters encountered significant challenges while battling the flames. Their initial aggressive approach to contain the garage fire was hampered by hazardous conditions and structural failure. Adding to their difficulties, a vehicle drove over their water hose, temporarily disrupting the water supply.

The incident began around 3:40 p.m. when approximately 25 people were gathered at the residence for Thanksgiving celebrations, as reported by CT Insider. Despite the severity of the fire, all occupants escaped without injury.

Multiple fire departments joined forces to combat the blaze, including teams from Westport, Wilton, Redding, West Redding, Georgetown, Weston, and Ridgefield. Their combined efforts couldn’t save the home from becoming uninhabitable.

While authorities continue to investigate the official cause, dramatic photos and video footage captured the intensity of the flames as they completely engulfed the structure. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of indoor turkey frying, particularly in enclosed spaces.
