During Tuesday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks of New York offered insights into Donald Trump’s success in the 2024 presidential election, attributing it primarily to economic challenges and immigration concerns.

Meeks explained, “People elected Donald Trump for two reasons: The economy, because when they went to the store, they [weren’t] looking at the stock market or anything of that nature, when they went to the store, the price for food was more than they could afford. And so, you saw people going with non-named milk and cheese and things of that nature. So, that was a problem. And immigration, because in New York, you had Gov. Abbott of Texas, who continually sent migrants to New York unannounced, without anything. So, that’s what they saw.”

The congressman acknowledged the Democratic Party’s shortcomings in addressing voter concerns. He emphasized the necessity for Democrats to demonstrate their commitment to addressing everyday challenges facing Americans and their overall wellbeing.

In his earlier remarks during the broadcast, Meeks had conceded that his party’s messaging fell short in conveying their understanding of constituents’ struggles, particularly regarding the rising cost of groceries.
