President Trump is pushing for ambitious deportation targets, with his administration aiming to remove more than 1,200 individuals daily from the United States, according to a Washington Post report.
Senior officials have instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to significantly increase daily arrests. The Post revealed:
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have been directed by Trump officials to aggressively ramp up the number of people they arrest, from a few hundred per day to at least 1,200 to 1,500, because the president has been disappointed with the results of his mass deportation campaign so far, according to four people with knowledge of the briefings.

The quotas were outlined Saturday in a call with senior ICE officials, who were told that each of the agency’s field offices should make 75 arrests per day and managers would be held accountable for missing those targets. The four people spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose internal briefings.”
The White House has contested these claims, though ICE reported nearly 1,000 arrests this past Sunday.
The administration is walking a delicate line, seeking to boost deportation numbers while avoiding potential public relations challenges. Their strategy focuses on prioritizing the removal of individuals with criminal records or standing deportation orders, which currently number approximately 1.5 million people.
This measured approach has largely prevented significant pushback from immigration advocates and media outlets. Even when a Washington Post reporter’s video of a distressed woman being denied entry went viral with 41 million views, public reaction remained relatively subdued.
Democratic leaders have expressed concerns about the deportation strategy. Representative Tom Suozzi warned CNN about potential chaos affecting local law enforcement, while Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker highlighted the impact on tax-paying undocumented workers during an MSNBC appearance.
Douglas Rivlin, speaking for America’s Voice, stated “Cruelty is the point.”
This may dissuade them from crossing. But as we know, Trump’s deportations in his first admin were far lower than that of Obama. We need 15-20k a day to removal all of them, assuming none show up. 300-500 is nothing. https://t.co/yfBjaNjwED

Border chief Tom Homan addressed these concerns in a November interview with Breitbart News, stating: “We need to control the narrative so we keep the trust of American people. Sometimes you’ve got to slow roll it, but other times, I think, the shock of it will move people.”
He further explained: “This won’t be neighborhood sweeps. This is a targeted enforcement operation. We know exactly who we’re going to arrest before we leave office. … Every arrest we make has been approved by a supervisor. We know exactly who we’re looking for. We have a pretty good idea where we’re going to find them. They got to get approval to do it. So it’s going to be well, well-planned, humane operation.”
The Department of Justice is expanding its enforcement capabilities, authorizing various law enforcement agencies to assist in identifying and apprehending unauthorized immigrants. The administration must also consider potential economic impacts, particularly in vital sectors like food production, where some reports suggest decreasing output.
During Trump’s previous term, his gradual deportation approach led businesses to invest $50 billion in automation technologies, including meatpacking robots. This strategy helped maintain economic stability while boosting American workers’ productivity and earnings.
