Trump Makes Decision On Becoming Next Speaker Of The House

Daily Report October 05,2023

Republican nominee front-runner and former President Donald Trump has made a decision on whether he will replace the ousted former Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

McCarthy’s ouster shocked the nation as nine House Republicans voted with their Democrat counterpart to remove the California lawmaker. Since then, the race to replace McCarthy has gained pace with House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and House Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) joining the fray.

Rumors, however, began swelling that Trump could also join the race to replace McCarthy as Speaker of the House. During Tuesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” host Sean Hannity revealed that some House Republicans are making efforts to draft Trump as a potential McCarthy replacement.

“Now, sources telling me at this hour some House Republicans have been in contact with and have started an effort to draft former President Donald Trump to be the next speaker,” Hannity said. “And I have been told that President Trump might be open to helping the Republican Party, at least in the short term, if necessary, if it is needed.”

The former president responded to the rumors while speaking to the press inside the New York State courthouse. Trump revealed that he has been getting calls from a lot of people asking him to join the race to become the next speaker. The former president added that he will do whatever’s best for the country and for the Republican Party. He, however, maintained that his focus is on his 2024 presidential campaign.

“A lot of people have asked me about it [the speakership race],” Trump said. “I’ll do whatever it is to help, but my total focus is being president and honestly making America great again — because we are living in a country in decline. This is a country that’s failing badly. We are not respected in the world. Interest rates are through the roof. Taxes are through the roof… but whatever I can do to help with regards to speaker I’ll do.”

Should Trump decide to run for the office of the speaker, he would have the backing of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Greene, in a social media post, revealed that Trump is the only person she will back to replace McCarthy.

“The only candidate for Speaker I am currently supporting is President Donald J. Trump,” Greene wrote on X. “… We can make him Speaker and then elect him President! He will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
