“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” McPherson says. “I’m just devastated.”
McPherson described the 71-year-old as “the nicest guy,” adding that Williams was talented.
“He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s,” McPherson continues. “He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”
Jacob Gribble —the fire chief for Dorset, Vermont– told People Magazine that the crash occurred at about 5 p.m. Gribble revealed that the crash involved Williams’ car and another car. Gribble said the car’s driver was making a turn and didn’t see the motorcycle.
According to investigators, the actor was the only one hurt in the crash. A LifeNet helicopter airlifted Williams to a hospital.
Williams began his acting career in 1975 and got his Hollywood break starring as doomed hippies George Berger in ‘Hair.’ Williams’ performance in Hair earned him a Golden Globe nomination. In 2021, Williams played Sheriff Tarsy in The Daily Wire’s “Run Hide Fight” action movie.
Tributes have begun to pour in for Williams since news of his death broke. Actor Mark Hamill, who worked with Williams in The Empire Strikes, shared a photo of the duo on a set. Hamil described Williams as a gifted person and a wonderful actor.

Treat Williams was a passionate, adventurous, creative man. In a short period of time, he quickly befriended me & his adventurous spirit was infectious. We worked on just 1 film together but occasionally connected over the years. Kind and generous with advice and support. RIP pic.twitter.com/jjZN8VcLR8
