Texas Teacher Saves Minor From Violent Attack

Daily Report August 09,2024

A video has recently gone viral showing a teacher opening fire on a suspect’s home and saving a 15 year-old girl from assault.

The attack occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on July 28 as the man followed the girl into an East Side Harris County apartment complex after she got off of Metro bus, officials said.

The girl was screaming for help outside of the apartment complex and a teacher, David Garza quickly assisted in her time of need.

“I looked out the window and I saw a man beating up a woman on the ground … trying to take her clothes off,” Garza told KHOU.

Garza, seen on security footage rushing out of his home with gun in hand to confront the attacker, did not hesitate. The suspect had the girl by her hair, he remembered.

“I ran outside, asked what’s going on. The girl screamed, ‘I’m 15, help me!’ I pointed the gun at him and told him to get off her,” Garza said.

Garza can be seen in video obtained by KHOU standing shirtless on his front porch with the handgun shouting, “Get away from her! Hey! Come here!”

A neighbor who saw the incident occur believes Garza saved what he imagines to be a more horrifying ending.

“At first, I was scared, I thought she was going to get raped. I think if he didn’t come out, she would have gotten raped,” the neighbor said.

Garza said he has had to step in before, and that even though it frightens him too much to think about clearly afterwards, wouldn’t hesitate if necessary.

“I think it’s something anyone else would have done — come help a child,” the teacher said.

“She needed help more than I was afraid, so I had to do it.”
