Texas plans to stop gender treatments for everyone

A Texas legislator is seeking to broaden the state’s restrictions on gender transition procedures by extending the current ban on youth treatments to include adults.

Republican Representative Brent Money has introduced House Bill 3399, which aims to modify existing legislation by replacing the term “child” with “person,” as reported by Fox News.

The proposed legislation would make it illegal to perform medical procedures intended to transition an individual’s biological sex or validate their gender identity when it differs from their biological sex at birth.

Under the bill, all Texas residents would be prohibited from accessing puberty-blocking medications and related surgeries. The legislation includes limited exceptions, such as allowing doctors to prescribe puberty blockers to minors with parental approval for puberty normalization, and permitting surgical interventions for individuals born with verifiable genetic sex development disorders.

Last June, Texas’s highest court maintained the state’s prohibition on gender-affirming care for minors. “In an 8-1 ruling, the state’s Supreme Court rejected arguments from parents who claimed that a Texas law that went into effect in September 2023, went against their right to decide whether or not to seek out medical care for their children.”

A CWS Research/DefendTXLiberty poll conducted in 2022 revealed that a significant majority of Texas Republican voters considered gender modification of children to be abusive.

“The survey comes as left-wing activists attempt to normalize radical gender ideology, encouraging parents to ‘affirm’ their child’s chosen gender — a plea made by President Biden himself,” Breitbart News noted at the time.

In related developments, former President Donald Trump recently issued an executive order blocking federal funding for gender-affirming care for minors.

The order stated, “It is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures.”
