SHOCKING – Jordan Chiles To Give Back Olympic Bronze Medal To Romanians

Daily Report August 13,2024

Jordan Chiles might be stripped of her Olympic bronze medal for good after the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) refused to review its initial decision, even with new evidence presented by USA Gymnastics.

USA Gymnastics showed it had video evidence that Chiles’ floor exercise score inquiry, triggered by coach Cecile Landi, at the Paris Olympics whether within a one-minute time limit.

But the evidence was not enough to make CAS reconsider who got bronze and gold as they upheld their earlier decision that Romania’s Ana Barbosu should be awarded the medal.

In a statement sent on Monday, USA Gymnastics said it was “disappointed” to learn that the Court of Arbitration for Sport had informed them that its rules do not allow an arbitrator’s award to be revisited even with new proof.

The notification is extremely disappointing and we will explore every legal avenue to challenge the outcome, including through appeals through arbitration with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as well as amending our score within this or other applicable Swiss Federal Tribunal proceedings.

The controversy kicked off when Barbosu was first named the bronze medalist in the floor exercise competition. Chiles’ score was later amended following a review prompted by the U.S., bumping her to third place temporarily.

Six days later, the CAS ruled that the inquiry was lodged too late to be considered. After a review of Olympic and FIG procedures surrounding such matters, it rescinded Barbosu’s earlier adjustment which put her in third with 14.066, while Chiles dropped down from fourth (13.200) back into fifth (scored at 13.666), followed by both Sabrina Maneca-Voinea and Barbosu.

However, Chiles finished on a high note and left Paris with a gold medal in the team all-around.

Barbosu, who weighed in on the matter online, gave shoutouts to both Chiles and Maneca-Voinea: “Sabrina, Jordan, my thoughts are with you. I know what you are feeling, because I’ve been through the same. But I know you’ll come back stronger. I hope from deep of my heart that at the next Olympics, all three of us will share same podium. This is my true dream!”
