A Russian attack using drones and missile strikes on the western city of Lviv resulted in a Ukrainian man losing his entire family including wife and three children according to the mayor of that city.
Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said in a post on Wednesday that Yevheniya Bazylevych’s family was among seven people killed overnight when a shell hit the house near the Polish border. It happens after one of the deadliest missile attacks during six years of conflict.
“In the center of Europe, Russia is eliminating Ukrainians by (killing off) entire families. The Russians are killing our children, our future,” the mayor wrote in a post on X.
“After today’s attack, the only person in this photo who survived is the man,” he added alongside a photo of the family. “Mother Yevheniya and her three daughters — Yaryna, Daryna, and Emiliya — were killed.”
His three daughters were aged just 21,18 and seven. Yaryna, the oldest sister, worked on some youth projects in the mayor’s office.
Local officials said over 50 people were wounded in the assault on Lviv, which damaged more than 70 buildings — schools, homes and clinics among them.
Video broadcast by Russian outlets showed emergency workers carrying drowned bodies out of a partially collapsed building in the Adlar area, while one aggrieved woman checked for news about her missing daughter and granddaughters.
A separate video from Ukraine’s state emergency service showed rescue workers giving first aid to an injured Bazylevych as they freed a slender girl, apparently lifeless, from the debris.
Wednesday also saw five people — including a 10-year-old child — wounded in another strike at the city of Kryvyi Rih in an incident that took place on Wednesday. Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Serhiy Lysak said the strikes hit four schools, a hotel and a pharmacy as well as several shops.
The missile strikes come after one of the deadliest instant tolls in a war now entering its ninth year. Polava — On Tuesday, two ballistic missiles struck a military college in Poltava during the Russian attack killing at least 50 people and wounding hundreds more.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his pleas for air defense systems from the West and to be allowed to use Western long-range anti-tactical missiles against Russian targets.
“Anyone making efforts to convince partners that giving Ukraine a better response capability at such ranges is just terrorism on the part of Russia in an urban area,” Zelensky said.
Moscow has not claimed responsibility for the strikes in Lviv and Poltava, but on Wednesday it warned of an “extremely painful” response if Ukraine were to begin long-range attacks against Russian territory. It is the heaviest bombardment in 10 days of war, with Moscow firing hundreds of missiles and drones at Ukraine as Ukrainian forces press their recent incursion into Russia.
