Republican Senator Wants To SUE CNN For Misinformation And Story Fabrication

Daily Report September 21,2024

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) on Friday called on Republican North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson to either take legal action against CNN or step down from his campaign for governor following allegations that Robinson posted inflammatory content on a pornography website.

“If the reporting on Mark Robinson is a total media fabrication, he needs to take immediate legal action,” Tillis posted on X.

“If the reporting is true, he owes it to President Trump and every Republican to take accountability for his actions and put the future of NC & our party before himself,” Tillis added.

The controversy arose after CNN reported that Robinson, 56, referred to himself as a “black Nazi” in a series of controversial posts made between 2008 and 2012 on the website Nude Africa.

In one post cited by CNN, Robinson allegedly wrote: “Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it back. I would certainly buy a few.”

CNN also reported that Robinson referred to himself as a “perv,” recalled “peeping” on women showering in a public gym, and referred to Muslims as “little rag-headed bastards.” The outlet linked the posts to Robinson through shared biographical details and an email address used by both the Nude Africa account and the GOP candidate.

Robinson has denied these accusations, calling the report “outrageous lies.”

“Let me reassure you, the things that you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” Robinson said in a video posted on X before the CNN story was released. “You know my words, you know my character, and you know I’ve been completely transparent in this race and before.”

Despite the growing controversy, Robinson has firmly stated that he will not drop out of the gubernatorial race.

The North Carolina Republican Party has also stood by Robinson, describing the report as a “smear” and a strategy by “the Left” to shift the election focus from policies to personalities.

A recent poll by Victory Insights, released Thursday, showed Robinson trailing his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, with Stein leading 47% to Robinson’s 42%. Seven percent of respondents indicated they supported former President Donald Trump but were undecided on Robinson.
