Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly endorsed President Joe Biden’s decision to grant Hunter Biden a full pardon, breaking her silence on the controversial move that has divided Democratic ranks.

Speaking to The Hill, Pelosi offered her unequivocal backing, stating: “I support the president.” When specifically questioned about the pardon itself, she affirmed: “The pardon, yes.”

This marks Pelosi’s notable return to the political spotlight, following reports of her struggling in the aftermath of Trump’s presidential victory and Republican dominance in Congress.

The presidential pardon comes as a surprising reversal from Biden’s previous stance, where he repeatedly assured he wouldn’t intervene in his son’s legal troubles. Hunter faced three felony convictions related to gun and tax violations, alongside ongoing congressional investigations.

While Pelosi stands firmly behind Biden’s decision, numerous Democratic figures have expressed their disapproval. Representative Greg Stanton (D-AZ) voiced his opposition on social media, stating: “I respect President Biden, but I think he got this one wrong. This wasn’t a politically-motivated prosecution. Hunter committed felonies, and was convicted by a jury of his peers.”

The criticism extends to prominent Democratic leaders, including Colorado Governor Jared Polis, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and incoming California Senator Adam Schiff, who have all publicly challenged the president’s controversial decision to pardon his son.
