The events occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on January 18 when George Lesniak shot his wife, Cathleen Lesniak, 59, in their residence located in Fuquay-Varina, a town situated 18 miles southwest of Raleigh.

The couple’s substantial home, featuring five bedrooms and four bathrooms, became a crime scene when law enforcement discovered George Lesniak deceased from what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds.

Prior to taking his own life, Lesniak posted a confession to an ADAS Support group on Facebook, claiming he murdered his wife because of alleged infidelity. “My wife admitted to cheating on me so I killed, I’m about to kill myself,” Lesniak wrote to the group, where he served as an administrator.

The group, which catered to technicians specializing in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems calibrations, received his final message just three minutes before authorities were dispatched to the residence on Highwater Place’s 800 block.

The couple, who had shared 34 years of marriage, had established careers in the automotive industry. Cathleen worked as a Technical Production Manager at Advanced Auto Parts, while George, originally from Illinois, had recently concluded his role as vice president of training at Autel Automotive Intelligence USA, where he had worked remotely for five and a half years until September 2024.

Local law enforcement emphasized there was no public safety threat but noted the investigation’s complexity warranted thorough examination. “This incident is deeply tragic, and we urge the community to keep the family in their thoughts during this challenging time,” officials stated.

Autel Automotive acknowledged the tragedy through social media, stating “We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at the Lesniak residence on January 18. We at Autel express our heartfelt condolences to the Lesniak family and friends.”

While authorities continue their investigation, they have yet to officially classify the deaths as a murder-suicide.
