Leader Of Iran Ismail Haniyeh ASSASSINATED – Investigation Ongoing

Daily Report July 31,2024

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said top Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated while he represented the group as Senior Representative in Tehran.

Following the assassination, Hamas has blamed Israel, saying that he was assassinated “in a Zionist airstrike on his residence in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration of Iran’s new president.”

The residence of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran was targeted by a missile, resulting in his and one of his bodyguards’ martyrdom earlier this morning. The Revolutionary Guard said the cause of death is under investigation and would be announced at a later time.

While no one took responsibility for the killing, Israel had threatened to assassinate Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders after Hamas conducted a cross-border raid on October 7 that killed more than 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped about 250 others.

Haniyeh became Palestinian Prime Minister in 2006 after Hamas won national elections, an appointment by President Mahmoud Abbas that led to more than a year of clashes between forces loyal to the two leaders. He was elected head of Hamas’s political bureau in 2017, and widely seen as the top official within the group until his death.

The attack was not the first time Israel struck against Haniyeh’s family. During the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in April, an Israeli airstrike killed three sons and four grandchildren as they made their way through Gaza’s Shati refugee camp.

Haniyeh’s death has not been mentioned in any official White House response. The event takes place at the moment when fighting is going on in Gaza and Israel, with explosives recently fired from Syria to Lebanon.

The Revolutionary Guard stated: “Hamas declares to the great Palestinian people and the people of the Arab and Islamic nations and all the free people of the world, brother leader Ismail Haniyeh a martyr,” the brief statement read.
