Kamala Harris Takes Giant Strides

Daily Report July 24,2024

Vice President Kamala Harris is moving towards securing the Democratic Party nomination following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2924 race on Sunday. Biden, who was forced to withdraw following pressure from members of his party, followed the announcement with his endorsement of Harris.

Joe Biden’s endorsement has so far pushed an avalanche of support from key Democratic officials and fundraisers toward Harris.

According to the latest Associated Press (AP) reports, numerous state delegations, including Texas and Harris’s home state of California, convened on Monday to solidify their backing for her.

Biden’s VP had gained the support of at least 2,471 delegates, surpassing the 1,976 needed for her nomination on the first ballot.

Harris’ campaign received a further boost when Rusty Hicks, California Democratic Party chairman, revealed that around 80% of the state’s delegation participated in a call on Monday where they unanimously supported Harris. Hicks maintained that he has not heard of anyone calling for another candidate besides the vice president.

In a meeting with her campaign staff in Delaware on Monday, Harris expressed her confidence in her newly formed team’s abilities. The vice president reiterated her commitment to becoming the party’s nominee and defeating former President Donald Trump.

“Our fight for the future is also a fight for freedoms,” Harris said. “The baton is in our hands.”

Despite the overwhelming support, the AP refrained from declaring Harris the presumptive nominee, noting that convention delegates remain free to vote for their candidate of choice at the convention in August. Alternatively, Democrats might conduct a virtual roll call ahead of the gathering in Chicago.

Harris’ campaign has also seen remarkable fundraising success. According to Breitbart News, Harris’ campaign raised $81 million within 24 hours, setting a new fundraising record.

Reports on Axios showed that over 888,000 grassroots donors donated to this total, with around 60% being first-time donors in the 2024 presidential election. Another 43,000 individuals committed to making recurring donations to her campaign.

The latest polls, however, show Trump beating Harris in national polls. A Harris X/Forbes poll shows Trump leading Harris by 10 percentage points. The former president commands a 48% to 33% lead over Harris among Independents. Trump also remarkably holds 25% support among Blacks, with Harris at 65%.
