Kamala Harris PICKS Minnesota Governor As Vice Presidential Candidate

Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. This happened as a result of replacing President Biden as her party’s presidential candidate.

Harris and Walz are to campaign together for the first time in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening. “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked Tim Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his,” Harris posted on X.

Walz stated that joining the Harris campaign is the “honor of a lifetime”. At the same time, he declared, “I’m all in”.

“Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks!” Walz said in a statement.

According to CNN, sources have reported that Harris got more comfortable with Walz over the last days of her vetting. She was particularly impressed by Walz’s ‘happy-go-lucky” attitude.

Walz spent 24 years in the Army National Guard and then served a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives until 2018. Minnesota’s largely rural south district Walz won the 2018 race for governor.

After the news about Harris’s pick got out, conservatives quickly criticized the Democrats for continuing to offer what has been dubbed the most radical, far-left ticket yet to the American people.

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) referred to Walz’s pick as the “most left-wing ticket in American history”. He also claimed that his Minnesota counterpart did not try hard enough to put an end to the violence produced during the 2020 protests in the state over George Floyd’s murder.

“Walz sat by and let Minneapolis burn,” DeSantis said.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who on Monday pressed the governor to deploy the National Guard earlier and harder in his city than elsewhere due in part for $500 million it caused after George Floyd died amounted to property loss and looting.

At that time Walz was criticized by some progressives for reacting too slowly amid unrest.

Walz has been vilified for embarking aggressively on “equity” initiatives from the start, as his very first act in office was to establish a statewide diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) commission that he re-upped after winning reelection in 2022.

And he also came under fire during the COVID-19 pandemic for bungling a response that racked up about $5 million in state expenses to buy an empty, refrigerated warehouse as reserve space possibly for dead bodies — and allowing parents of poor kids across Florida to be victims of a $250 million scam on federal government stimulus dollars.

But Democrats are banking on Walz advocating a more centrist profile for the 2024 ticket, following his victory by double digits in his gubernatorial contest – an accomplishment Republicans noted led to even higher vote and county totals than Hillary Clinton could muster here in her losing effort during Minnesota’s 2016 presidential election.

The Democratic National Committee then changed the rules to require a virtual roll call vote for both the presidential and vice presidential nominee, meaning Harris had less than two weeks between Biden’s announcement and her selection as running mate.

“Nearly two weeks ago, Vice President Harris asked me to work with her team to complete the vetting process to be considered as her running mate — and following those conversations, on Sunday, I was grateful to have the opportunity to speak with the Vice President directly about her vision for the role and the campaign ahead,” Governor Josh Shapiro said.
