Primanti Brothers, a well-known eatery in the Keystone State, has become unexpectedly embroiled in controversy on Saturday after Senator JD Vance’s campaign stop seemed to run off course.
The Ohio senator and Vice Presidential candidate was stopped at the restaurant doors for a moment by no prior notice– even though dozens of his supporters were waiting inside. However, the campaign did not alert staff beforehand causing confusion when they arrived unidentified.
A video of a speech Vance gave to his disappointed followers outside the iconic 90-year-old restaurant circulated on social media after he was restricted from entering.
In the parking lot, Vance said: “[The manager] just freaked out a little bit because there were a lot of people, and she didn’t want to turn her restaurant into a campaign stop.”
Even after the hiccup, Vance offered a quick word of comfort and told his followers that all their meals were picked up and they still left a big tip for everyone.
Vance responded to the news by joking that, “It’s alright, don’t hold it against her, she just got a little nervous. But it’s a great local business, keep on supporting it, and most importantly, on November 5th go vote. Let’s go win this thing.”
The restaurant then invited Vance and his backers to gather inside, confronting potential backlash so it could issue a statement trying to make sure the thing did not get out of hand.
“Without any advance notice, today’s campaign stop caused some momentary confusion for our staff. However, Senator Vance and his team were welcomed into our restaurant shortly after and engaged with our guests inside and on the property,” the restaurant said.
The news comes after another politically charged visit from Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Governor Tim Walz made headlines when dining at Primanti Brothers earlier in August.
