Indictment 4.0: Trump, 18 Co-Defendants Face Georgia Charges

Daily Report August 15,2023

Former President Donald Trump was indicted for the fourth time on Monday after A grand jury in Georgia returned 10 indictments against the 2024 presidential candidate and 18 others.

Trump’s latest indictment follows Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation into the former president’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

“Defendant Donald John Trump lost the United States presidential election held on November 3, 2020,” the indictment reads. “One of the states he lost was Georgia. Trump and the other Defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump. That conspiracy contained a common plan and purpose to commit two or more acts of racketeering activity in Fulton County, Georgia, elsewhere in the State of Georgia, and in other states.”

The former president’s high-profile co-defendants in the indictment include Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer, state Sen. Shawn Still and former assistant U.S. attorney general Jeffrey Clark.

The indictment also named attorneys John Eastman, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Bob Cheeley, Ray Smith III and Kenneth Chesebro as Trump’s co-defendants.

The 98-page indictment document charged Trump with “Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations” (RICO) Act, Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer, Conspiracy To Commit Forgery in the First Degree, Conspiracy To Commit Impersonating a Public Officer, Conspiracy To Commit False Statements and Writings, Conspiracy To Commit Filing False Documents, Conspiracy To Commit False Statements and Writings, Conspiracy To Commit Forgery in the First Degree, Filing False Documents, Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer, and False Statements and Writings.

Trump’s campaign released a statement describing the indictment as an attempt to interfere with the 2024 presidential race.

“Like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Deranged Jack Smith, and New York AG Letitia James, Fulton County, GA’s radical Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis is a rabid partisan who is campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments,” the statement reads. “Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign. All of these corrupt Democrat attempts will fail.”
