Hunter Biden’s lawyers threatened to put President Joe Biden on the witness stand if the Justice Department charged the first son over his gun law violation.
🧵Politico has a story about Hunter Biden’s plea deal, showing how his pricey lawyers manipulated the DOJ by threatening to put the president on the witness stand in a criminal trial if his son was charged, precipitating a “Constitutional crisis”. According to Politico, Hunter’s lawyer made the threat in 2022 after news leaked that investigators were confident they had enough to bring federal charges against the first son for illegally buying a gun as a drug user.
Chris Clark, Hunter’s lawyer, was allegedly unhappy with the leak and wrote a letter to David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware overseeing the probe. In the letter, Clark argued that the leak could be seen as political and a possible violation of his client’s Second Amendment right.
Clark wrote in the letter that President Biden “would be a “fact witness for the defense in any criminal trial” against the first son.
“This of all cases justifies neither the spectacle of a sitting President testifying at a criminal trial nor the potential for a resulting Constitutional crisis,” Clark wrote.
Hunter Biden’s lawyers explicitly argued that the DOJ wouldn’t want to be at odds with their boss, Joe Biden, and therefore should cut a sweetheart deal for him… and so they did!… until a judge “asked a few simple questions.” h/t @woodruffbets @politico pic.twitter.com/E6NktS7Rpc

According to Politico, Clark went on to describe a scenario where the sitting president would testify to undermine a criminal case brought by prosecutors from his Justice Department.
It’s not clear what Clarks expected the president to testify to. However, The House Oversight Committee’s investigations into the Bidens have all pointed to the president’s involvement in his family’s shady business deals.
Politico’s report comes just days after reports revealed that Weiss, who has now been appointed special counsel to investigate the case against Hunter, was close to agreeing to end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea on any charges.
🚨Biden's DOJ wants to dismiss the charges against Hunter, *supposedly* to refile them elsewhere, no doubt before some liberal judge who will rubber-stamp a sweetheart deal.

Whistleblowers from the IRS, however, forced Weiss into demanding that Hunter Biden plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax crimes and enter a deferred prosecution agreement on a gun charge. A federal judge in Delaware threw out the deal after noticing that prosecutors overtly gave the first son a blanket immunity.
