Alexandria police have confirmed that Jessica Aber, the former US Attorney discovered deceased in her Virginia residence on Saturday morning, likely died from natural causes.

Law enforcement officials provided an update Tuesday evening stating that their investigation had uncovered no signs of suspicious circumstances surrounding the 43-year-old’s death.

The discovery of Aber’s body at approximately 9:20 a.m. prompted an outpouring of sympathy from both current and former Department of Justice colleagues. Sources close to the investigation, including a family friend speaking to NBC News, indicated that investigators believed a medical condition was responsible for her passing. This assessment was corroborated by two former high-ranking Justice Department officials, who told NBC News that local authorities had ruled out foul play.

While the exact cause and manner of death remain undetermined, Alexandria police emphasized in their Tuesday statement that the investigation would continue until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) reaches its final conclusions.

“At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police said in an update Tuesday evening.

Aber, who stepped down from her position when President Trump assumed office on January 20, had earned recognition for her office’s successful prosecution of CIA information leaks and cases involving Russian nationals conducting fraudulent activities within the United States.

Law enforcement officials have requested that the public maintain distance and show consideration for the Aber family during their period of mourning, stating, “We urge the public to respect the privacy of Ms. Aber’s family during this time of loss.”

Police indicated that any forthcoming information regarding Aber’s cause of death would be released through the medical examiner’s office.
