Democrats Release Corruption Evidence Against Trump

Daily Report January 05,2024

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Thursday released evidence suggesting former President Donald Trump engaged in corrupt practices while he was in office.

Led by House Oversight ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), democrats released evidence showing the former president earned around $7.8 million in foreign government-linked payments while he was in office. The payments were made to Trump businesses for hotel stays and office leases.

“Donald Trump, while holding the office of president, used his business entities to pocket millions of dollars from foreign states and royalty,” Raskin wrote in the report’s opening statement.

The report claims Trump received the payments from at least 20 countries while he was president.

“President Trump’s businesses received, at a minimum, $7.8 million in foreign payments from at least 20 countries during his presidency. These included payments from foreign governments and foreign government-owned or -controlled entities to properties owned by Donald Trump,” the report reads.

Raskin claims the report will allow the American people to see the rampant illegality and corruption of the Trump presidency.

The report was released to counter the GOP-led House evidence of corruption, money laundering and influence peddling of President Joe Biden and his family. According to House Republicans, The Bidens have received millions of dollars from Chinese, Ukrainian and Kazakhstani entities

House Oversight Committee Chairman blasted the report while arguing that the former president had legitimate businesses.

“It’s beyond parody that Democrats continue their obsession with former President Trump. Former President Trump has legitimate businesses but the Bidens do not,” Comer said. “The Bidens and their associates made over $24 million by cashing in on the Biden name in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Romania. No goods or services were provided other than access to Joe Biden and the Biden network.”

One key flaw in the report is that most of the payments listed began coming into the Trump Organization even before the former president took office. Over two-thirds of the overall total of foreign funds traced by the report came from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The Chinese entity began leasing the Trump Tower in Manhattan in 2008, eight years before Trump took office and was paying $1.9 million annually.
