House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and his fellow Democrats are not happy with Rep. Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) victory after House Republicans elected the Louisiana lawmaker as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Following weeks of drama and plottings at the Capitol, House Republicans finally rallied behind Johnson and elected him as speaker. Johnson’s victory did not go down well with Democrats, with Jefferies labeling the newly elected speaker an “extreme right-wing ideologue.”
“Mike Johnson wants to criminalize abortion care and impose a nationwide ban. Mike Johnson was one of the chief architects of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election” Jefferies told CNN’s This Morning. “Mike Johnson also wants to end Social Security and Medicare as we know it. Those are extreme views.”
Johnson vowed that House Democrats will push back aggressively against Mike Johnson.
Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), noted that Johnsson is a pro-life Republican before calling the new speaker an “insurrectionist.” Porter added that the American people deserved better.

Pro-Hamas and anti-Israel Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) described Johnson as a “MAGA Extremist” who is seeking to ban abortion. Omar added that Republicans have embraced the extreme MAGA playbook.”

Rep. Adam Schiff (R-CA), who was recently censured by the House for his false and misleading statement during the Russia collusion investigation into former President Donald Trump, described Johnson as a hard-right pro-Trump.
