Democratic Strategist James Carville WARNS That Party Could Be In Trouble This Election

Daily Report August 25,2024

Democratic strategist James Carville is telling his players about resting on their laurels in light of recent polling showing Vice President Kamala Harris running well ahead of former president Donald Trump.

Appearing on “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday, Carville noted that while Harris has an edge over Trump right now, she still needs to work the Electoral College harder.

“I challenge Democrats with some caution here. First of all, most want to say we have to win by three in the popular vote to win the Electoral College. So when you see a poll that says we two up. Well, that’s actually, you’re one down if the poll is correct,” Carville said.

Harris leads Trump by 1.6 points in the RealClearPolitics nationally, but Trump retains a lead in various crucial battleground states.

“The other thing is Trump traditionally, when he’s on the ballot, chronically under-polls,” Carville added.

“Traditionally, with Trump on the ballot… Democrats say, ‘Oh James, you’re a Debbie Downer.’ I’m not. I’m just telling you, you got to win by three,” the strategist shared.

New polls continue to show a tight race, with Trump leading within the margin of error in another Rasmussen Reports survey out Friday—49% to 46%.

Rasmussen has been an outlier in recent national polls. However, it was one of the most accurate pollsters when measuring a Trump win over Hillary Clinton at the end of 2016.

The polling picture may well change again tomorrow, with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy (4%) most likely to get out of the race Thursday and throw his support behind Trump.
