Defund The Police Democrat Gets Carjacked, Wants Police To Take Back City

Daily Report September 11,2023

It was a case of “policies have consequences” for a Minnesota DFL Party official after she was violently beaten and carjacked in her home.

The Second Vice Chairwoman for the DFL, Shivanthi Sathanandan, was one of the most vocal voices who called for defunding the police during the George Floyd riot of 2020. The Minnesota Democratic party official suffered the consequence of that call when a group of men attacked her at home in front of kids.

The attackers made away with her car after beating her and leaving her with a bloodied face. Sathanandan shared images of her bloodied face on social media and details of the event, adding that she had a broken leg, deep lacerations on her head, and bruising and cuts all over her body.

“Yesterday, my children and I were violently carjacked in the driveway of our home in Minneapolis,” Sathanandan wrote on Facebook. “Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids. The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight. I’m now part of the statistics. I wasn’t silent when I fought these men to save my life and my babies, and I won’t be silent now. We need to get illegal guns off of our streets, catch these young people who are running wild creating chaos across our city and hold them in custody and prosecute them. Period.”

Despite her previous calls to defund the police, Sathanandan thanked law enforcement for their prompt response, specifically mentioning the Minneapolis Police Department, which assisted during the terrifying experience.

Sathanandan has posted several anti-police sentiments in the past. The DFL official applauded the Minneapolis School Board’s decision to terminate its contract with the city’s police department. Sathanandan lauded the decision, noting that “MPD should have no place in our children’s schools.”

“MPD has systematically failed the Black Community. They have failed ALL OF US. It’s time to build a new infrastructure that works for ALL communities,” Sathanandan wrote in a Facebook post a few days after George Floyd’s death. “If you are still disagreeing with that BASIC FACT, I’m not sure what to say to you.”
