Dallas Police Officer Karissa David BLINDED After Fellow Cop Is Murdered In Orchestrated Attack

Daily Report September 25,2024

A Dallas police officer was left blind in both eyes after being shot multiple times during a brutal attack that also claimed the life of a fellow officer in what police are calling a targeted execution.

Sr. Cpl. Karissa David was released from the hospital on September 19, after suffering critical injuries when she was shot in the face by 30-year-old gunman Corey Cobb-Bey on August 29. David’s family revealed that she will require months of outpatient care as she continues her recovery.

The horrific incident occurred in the parking lot of the For Oak Cliff Community Campus, where David had responded after Cobb-Bey fatally shot Officer Darron Burks as he sat in his car between calls, according to the Dallas Police Department.

A dispatcher had sent officers to the scene, located on the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive, following an “unusual transmission from Officer Burks’ radio” around 10 p.m. that night, police reported.

The first officer to arrive, Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer, was immediately met with gunfire from Cobb-Bey, who was armed with a 9mm handgun, a .22 caliber handgun, and two shotguns. Farmer returned fire but was struck in the leg when Cobb-Bey fired a shotgun.

After wounding Farmer, Cobb-Bey made his way toward David’s car at the entrance of the parking lot. As David stepped out of her vehicle, Cobb-Bey opened fire. Although she managed to return fire, David was critically injured when a bullet struck her in the face, leaving her blind.

As officers pursued the gunman, the three wounded officers were rushed to the hospital, where Burks was pronounced dead. David was initially listed in stable but critical condition, while Farmer was treated and released the following day.

David’s family shared an update on her condition through a GoFundMe page, writing, “She is currently blind in both eyes, and we ask for continued prayers for a miracle in that regards.” They also noted that David, who had recently married her husband Josh, would be undergoing a major surgery soon.

The fundraiser, which has garnered nearly $84,000, will help cover modifications to the couple’s home and provide tools to assist David with her vision loss. “There are AI glasses, seeing-eye dogs, screen readers, smart appliances and tons of other gadgets that will enhance her life moving forward,” her family explained.

The gunman, Cobb-Bey, was killed by police in Lewisville, about 25 miles from the scene of the shooting. He had led officers on a chase and was shot dead after he exited his vehicle and pointed a shotgun at them.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia expressed the gravity of the situation, saying Burks was “executed” in a deliberate attack. “Our officers were targeted by nothing more than the uniforms that they wear and for the brave and honorable job that they do,” he said. “I want to be clear here, the word ambush has been thrown around in the last 24 hours. That is not what happened here. Officer Burks was executed.”

The incident has left the Dallas Police Department and the community in mourning, with the Dallas Police Honor Guard paying tribute to Officer Burks at his funeral on September 7, held at Watermark Community Church.
