Declyn “Dex” Lauper, the rapper son of music legend Cyndi Lauper, was arrested for gun possession on Wednesday night after police were called to a shooting scene in Harlem.
The police conducted a canvas search after a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg outside an apartment building that same night. Fifteen minutes after the shooting, the NYPD found Lauper near the building with a gun and drugs.
Lauper was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance. However, ABC News reports that he was not charged in the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
The 24-year-old shooting victim, Omar Lewis, was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. The report claims he is in stable condition.

According to the New York Post, this is not the first time Lauper has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested in July 2022 when police found him driving a stolen Mercedes Benz at a memorial service for an aspiring rapper called Ethan Reyes, who had been fatally stabbed days earlier.
Prosecutors said that Lauper told police officers when he was questioned about the vehicle: “You probably know who I am.” After examining court documents related to the case, the outlet revealed that the rapper was taken into custody.
He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to community service and one year of probation. Following his court hearing in October 2022, Lauper was spotted smoking marijuana with friends as he boarded an SUV parked outside of the courthouse.

Lauper posted an image of a smoke-filled vehicle on his Instagram story that day with the caption, “Court.”
Lauper is known for his hit songs. In 2019, he collaborated with American Rapper G-Eazy for the song “KIDS.”
In an interview with the New York Post, the rapper revealed that he was working on a song with his mother.
“Me and my mother have a couple of songs that we recorded,” he said.
He also added that the conclusion of his previous case was a blessing.
