During a recent “CNN NewsNight” segment, host Abby Phillip addressed concerns about the tracking of migrant children, offering a different perspective on claims about unaccounted-for minors in the immigration system.

Phillip challenged statements about immigration detention policies, questioning how former ICE Director Tom Homan would navigate existing legal restrictions on child detention periods. She specifically pressed for answers about plans to either expedite family deportations or address court-mandated limits on juvenile detention duration.

In response, CNN Senior Political Commentator Scott Jennings, who previously served in the Bush administration, redirected the conversation to criticize the current administration’s handling of migrant children, claiming that “tens of thousands of children that our current administration cannot account for.”

Phillip swiftly intervened to provide context to Jennings’ assertion. “Well, let me clarify what you’re talking about, what you’re talking about are people who are not in touch with the system. They may or may not be ‘lost.’ They may be with their families. They may be intentionally not communicating with immigration officers. So, I don’t think it’s fair to describe them all that way.”

Following this exchange, Phillip steered the discussion back to examining how the Trump administration would address existing court decisions regarding immigration policies.
