A recent survey has revealed that British voters strongly endorse many of Donald Trump’s key policies when presented without attribution to the former U.S. president. The poll, conducted by Opinium among 2,000 UK voters, demonstrated significant support for various initiatives that mirror Trump’s political agenda.

The findings showed that nearly 60 percent of British respondents favored declaring a national emergency at the English Channel, similar to Trump’s border emergency declaration. Only a quarter of those polled opposed such action.

Energy policy proposals reflecting Trump’s approach gained considerable traction, with 55 percent supporting measures to reduce prices, replenish gas reserves, and boost energy exports to restore national prosperity and combat inflation.

The survey uncovered a notable shift in climate policy preferences, with a plurality of respondents backing the termination of net zero initiatives – a direct challenge to Prime Minister Starmer’s environmental priorities. Furthermore, British voters strongly supported protectionist trade measures, with 56 percent favoring tariffs to safeguard domestic industry and workers.

Social policy positions associated with Trump also resonated strongly. Approximately 53 percent supported both a return to merit-based decision-making and the removal of government censorship. Similarly, 51 percent endorsed the recognition of only two biological genders.

James Crouch, Opinium’s head of policy, said: “While Trump’s policies are rightly scrutinised, it’s his mastery of narrative and storytelling that stands out – the polling suggests British politicians could benefit from taking a page from his playbook when advancing their own policy agenda.”

Nepean’s managing partner Gavin Davis noted: “Whether you like Trump or not, this research shows the danger of simply dismissing many of his policies out of hand.”

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss remarked: “It’s not the people that are the problem in Britain. It’s the declinist establishment.”

These findings could bolster Nigel Farage’s Reform party, which champions similar policies to Trump. The party has experienced recent surges in popularity, achieving unprecedented success by leading national polls for the first time last week.
