A Biden administration official’s mismanagement of immigration policies has drastically shifted public sentiment against migration, according to a leading pro-migration advocate.

Andrea Flores, FWD.us’s chief lobbyist, acknowledged that the Biden administration failed to clearly define its immigration agenda. Speaking at a D.C. cinema event on November 19, she highlighted how the lack of Democratic support led to public perception issues.

“The public completely rejected President Biden’s immigration agenda because … he never defined exactly what it was,” Flores stated.

“What really happened is Democrats didn’t come in,” she continued, adding: “It looked unmanaged: It was at the border, it was asylum seekers arriving in cities, it was mayors and governors asking the federal government for support that they didn’t get, it was long-time undocumented immigrants seeing new arrivals receive benefits that they had been waiting decades for.”

Mark Krikorian, Center for Immigration Studies director, dismissed these explanations, stating, “The problem is not their messaging — the problem is the substance of their [pro-migration] policy and its consequences.”

“If we had only spent X times more money, we could have managed this more effectively and we wouldn’t have lost the election,” Krikorian interpreted Flores’ message.

The discussion holds particular significance as FWD.us, founded by Mark Zuckerberg and West Coast investors, has significantly influenced Democratic Party migration policy since Trump’s 2016 victory. Under Mayorkas’s leadership, approximately nine million inadmissible migrants have entered through southern pathways since 2021.

The administration’s approach faced growing criticism as public opposition mounted. Despite this, Vice President Harris maintained alignment with Mayorkas’s policies during her campaign, using FWD.us-approved language even as immigration became a crucial election issue.

Post-election, Democratic figures attempted to minimize the political impact. Campaign manager David Plouffe attributed the loss to a “brutal” political atmosphere, while advisor Stephanie Cutter cited Harris’s loyalty to Biden’s policies as a limiting factor.

At the cinema event, Flores emphasized that initial public support for asylum system reform had reversed over four years. She argued that the administration’s failure to establish clear protocols for border management and community integration contributed to this shift.

Todd Schulte, FWD.us president, concluded the event by advocating for a modernized immigration system, stating, “We should build a much more welcoming and humane and orderly immigration system.”

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between economic interests, public sentiment, and immigration policy, with further developments expected as political dynamics continue to evolve.
