The radical left continues to rationalize the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, with Senator Bernie Sanders (Socialist-VT) becoming the latest to join this disturbing chorus.

Thompson’s life was tragically cut short on December 4 when he was shot in the chest near Manhattan’s Hilton hotel in what investigators believe was a calculated attack.

Law enforcement successfully apprehended Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old former Ivy League student, in Altoona, Pennsylvania at a McDonald’s restaurant following an extensive search. Mangione was identified as Thompson’s alleged killer.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) previously shared controversial remarks with Joy Reid on MSNBC, suggesting that while the murder was wrong, it served as a “warning” that “you can only push people so far.”

During today’s “Meet the Press” broadcast, Sanders responded to Warren’s contentious statement by offering his own problematic perspective.

“Shooting somebody in the back is totally unacceptable,” Sanders said. “But what I think has happened in the last few months is that what you have seen is people’s anger at a health insurance industry which denies people the health care they desperately need while they make billions of dollars.”

Sanders’ response effectively provides justification for the heinous act by suggesting the perpetrator’s possible grievances with the insurance industry somehow mitigate his actions.

This reasoning mirrors the reprehensible practice of victim-blaming in sexual assault cases, where attackers’ actions are excused by citing the victim’s clothing choices.

Such rhetoric from progressive leaders like Sanders and Warren demonstrates their willingness to find extenuating circumstances for even the most heinous crimes when it aligns with their political agenda.
