Representative Nancy Pelosi, the 84-year-old Democratic congresswoman from San Francisco, has submitted paperwork for her 2026 reelection bid amid reports of her struggling to cope with President-elect Donald Trump’s victory and Republican control of Congress.

Pelosi, who secured her 20th term in the recent election, has represented her San Francisco district since 1987. Her tenure includes two stints as House Speaker, serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. Her recent filing with the Federal Election Commission signals her intention to maintain her position at the highest levels of government.

During a recent interview with The New York Times, when questioned about whether this term would be her final one, Pelosi deflected, stating, “I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election. I must have thought I had the last term over and over again, but as fate would have it, the mission called.”

As a prominent Trump adversary during her time as Speaker in his first administration, Pelosi has expressed concern about his return to the White House. This upcoming presidential term will mark the first time since George W. Bush’s initial presidency that she won’t hold a leadership position during a Republican administration.

The veteran legislator and mother of five from San Francisco is widely considered instrumental in ending Biden’s reelection prospects, though she has consistently denied having a significant impact on this outcome.
